“By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.”-Hebrews 11:7
First of all, God shared prophecy with us!!! It was His idea! We can’t outdo the mind of God! It’s just not going to happen. His ways and His thoughts are so much higher than ours! (Isaiah 55:8,9). There are some major reasons why God shared the prophecies of the Bible with us! We should take those to heart and then act accordingly (both for our personal study, and for our sharing with others).
Here are several reasons why God has shared Bible prophecy with His people:
#1) God gives us prophecy so that we learn to trust Him. As we see the words of God fulfilled then we will learn that God does know what will happen and also that we can trust Him! We will not be surprised by what is coming! God will reveal it to us before it ever does. As we see His word fulfilled, then our faith is built up and inspired to stand strong concerning the things that are still yet to come (See Amos 3:7).
#2) God reveals the truth about His plans for the future so that we can know what time we are living in and then we can act accordingly with wisdom! We can act by faith and do the right thing for the right time! Take Noah for example in Hebrews 11:7. He knew from God what was coming in the future. By faith he trusted God and ACTED upon that knowledge. Because he did, he and his family were saved. Also, he was able to warn many people about what was coming so that they knew it would come (though they doubted God, yet they were warned at the very least! Noah was a “preacher of righteousness”-2 Pet. 2:5). God wants us to be in the know about these things and to act according to that true knowledge (See also Revelation 1:1,3 “…to show His servants things which must shortly come to pass…”).
#3) God wants to expose the evil plans and workings of Satan. Not only does God reveal His own perfect plans for the future, but He also warns us of the twisted workings of Satan so that we will not fall prey to his evil deceptions. Take for example the warnings of 2 Thessalonians 2:8-10 and Rev. 12:9; 13:2,6,8,11.
#4) God wants people to see the prophecies fulfilled and to realize that He is the only true God! This leads us (and all men and women) to put our faith in God. (See Isaiah 46:9,10). He alone is God! This is also how Jesus showed to his apostles that he could be trusted as the true Christ–the Savior of the world. The apostles also followed the same course as presenting Jesus Christ as the fulfillment of the prophecies from all ages past. This led thousands of doubting unbelievers to put their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ! (See Luke 24:25-27, 44; 1 Cor. 15:2-5).
